BREAKING NEWS: 24 out of 27 EU Member States voted in favor of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework

With the EU Member States committee voting in favor of the revised draft adequacy decision on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework yesterday, the big question now is when the European Commission will actually adopt the final adequacy decision. Will it be as early as next week, as the rumors say?

What 🇪🇺votes in favor of EU-US Privacy Framework mean for your company?

Time line: On July 3, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of the U.S. National Intelligence Director announced that all commitments under Executive Order 14086 have been fulfilled.

On July 7, 24 out of 27 EU Member States voted in favor of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework indicating that the DPF provides an adequate level of protection for personal data.

What it means for EU-US transfers?

When this Framework gets officially adequate, all US companies that join Privacy Framework would be considered adequate. And the transfer to this US companies would require only data protection agreement. No additional safeguards would be required

‼️‼️Attention: this also means that the adequacy decision is given not to all United States companies. So, for the ones, which would not join #Privacy Framework chapter 5 of GDPR would still apply.
